Ingredients
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoon unsalted butter
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg whites
- ¾ cup chopped walnuts divided
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment or foil, leaving 2 inches hanging over the edges. Spray with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt butter.
- Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder and vanilla. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Add sugar, brown sugar, egg, and egg whites to the saucepan. Whisk until blended.
- Stir in flour mixture until combined.
- Stir in ½ cup walnuts.
- Spread batter evenly into the baking dish.
- Sprinkle remaining ¼ cup walnuts on top.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool completely in the pan on a rack.
- Lift brownies from the pan using parchment edges and cut into 16 squares.
