Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil, making sure the foil hangs over the rim by 2 inches.
Spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray.
In a small bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, whisk together cocoa and melted butter.
Add sugar, one whole egg, and egg whites to the cocoa mixture, whisking until everything is well mixed.
Mix in vanilla extract.
Gradually stir in the flour mixture until everything is combined.
Fold in the pecans.
Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan, set on a wire rack.
Use the overhanging foil to lift the brownies out of the pan.
Cut the large square lengthwise into 4 strips, then cut each strip into 4 smaller squares.
