Put the broccoli in a bowl that can go in the microwave. Cover it up and microwave it on High for about 5 minutes until it becomes tender.
Carefully remove the cover and pour out any extra liquid from the bowl.
In a large bowl, use a fork to mash the beans until they become almost smooth.
Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, and an egg to the bowl with the beans. Mix it all together.
Put the broccoli in the bowl and use the fork to lightly mash it with the other ingredients. Add cheese and stir everything together.
Divide the mixture in the bowl into 8 equal parts. Shape each part into a patty that's about ½ inch thick.
Place the patties onto the sheet pan you prepared earlier. Spray the tops of the patties with cooking spray.
Put the pan with the patties in the oven and bake at 425°F for around 20 minutes until they turn golden brown and set.
Once they're ready, take them out of the oven. Serve the patties warm.
