Mexican Spiced Coffee – Cafe de Olla
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- ½ cup piloncillo Mexican brown sugar
- 2 medium cinnamon sticks
- ¼ tsp anise seeds
- 2 whole cloves
- 3-4 tbsp instant coffee
- 1 can (12floz) evaporated milk
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, add water, cloves, piloncillo, anise, and cinnamon sticks.
- Over medium/high heat, bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Take pan off of heat.
- Add in coffee and stir to mix well.
- Cover and steep for 5 minutes
- In a small saucepan, add evaporated milk.
- Over medium/high heat, whisk constantly until milk becomes frothy and just boils. Remove from stove.
- Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the coffee over coffee mugs.
- Serve immediately with the frothed milk on the side.
