Nashville Hot Chicken Sweet Potato Bowl has plenty of bold heat, but there’s more going on here than spice alone.

The roasted sweet potatoes add a little sweetness and a soft, browned texture that works especially well against the cayenne-coated chicken. Then the cool toppings come in and balance everything out.

Shredded cabbage gives each bowl a fresh crunch, while dill pickles and red onion add the sharp, tangy bite that goes so well with Nashville-style hot chicken.

Cherry tomatoes add a juicy contrast, and the yogurt ranch drizzle cools down the heat without covering up the spices.

This is also a satisfying high protein chicken dinner that doesn’t feel heavy.

Each bowl has warm roasted sweet potatoes and chicken alongside crisp vegetables, so there’s a good mix of temperatures and textures.

The honey in the hot sauce softens the cayenne slightly, while smoked paprika adds a deeper flavor.

A large baking sheet gives the sweet potatoes room to roast instead of steam. A large skillet makes it easy to brown the chicken while the potatoes are in the oven.

Why You’ll Love This Nashville Hot Chicken Sweet Potato Bowl

Sweet, Spicy, and Tangy

The cayenne and hot sauce give the chicken plenty of heat, while honey and roasted sweet potatoes add just enough sweetness. Pickles and lemony ranch keep the bowl bright and tangy.

Plenty of Texture

Tender sweet potatoes and juicy chicken are paired with crisp cabbage, red onion, tomatoes, and pickles. Every bite has a little contrast.

High Protein Main Course

With 42 grams of protein per serving, this bowl makes a filling high protein dinner without needing an extra side dish.

The Ranch Cools the Heat

The Greek yogurt ranch drizzle is creamy and cool, which helps balance the spicy Nashville hot sauce without making the bowl too rich.

Easy to Customize

The chicken, vegetables, sweet potatoes, and drizzle are added separately, so it’s simple to adjust the amount of heat or toppings in each serving.

Ingredient Substitutions

Chicken Thighs

Boneless skinless chicken thighs can replace the chicken breasts. They will have a richer flavor and may need a little additional cooking time depending on the size of the pieces.

Green Cabbage

Shredded red cabbage or a packaged coleslaw mix can replace the green cabbage. Either option keeps the crisp texture.

Greek Yogurt

Plain low-fat Greek yogurt can replace nonfat Greek yogurt for a slightly richer ranch drizzle.

Fresh Lemon Juice

Bottled lemon juice can work when fresh lemon isn’t available, although fresh juice gives the ranch a brighter flavor.

Cherry Tomatoes

Grape tomatoes can be used in the same amount.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

Adjust the cayenne – One teaspoon gives the sauce noticeable heat. Reduce it if a milder Nashville hot chicken bowl is preferred.
Give the sweet potatoes space – Keep the cubes in a single layer with a little room between them so the edges can brown.
Cut the chicken evenly – Similar-size pieces cook at roughly the same rate and are less likely to dry out.
Add the hot sauce after cooking – Coating the chicken once it is fully cooked keeps the honey in the sauce from burning in the skillet.

Storing and Reheating

Store separately when possible – Refrigerate the chicken and sweet potatoes in airtight containers for up to 3 to 4 days. Keep the vegetables, pickles, and yogurt ranch separate so they stay crisp and fresh.
Reheat the chicken and sweet potatoes – Warm them in the microwave until heated through, then add the cold vegetables and ranch drizzle.
Store the yogurt ranch – Keep the drizzle covered in the refrigerator and stir before serving.
