Tips and Tricks

Prepping the Chicken

For more flavorful chicken, you can marinate the chicken pieces in the sweet and sour sauce for about 30 minutes before adding them to the slow cooker. This helps the flavors penetrate the meat better.

Even Cooking

To ensure even cooking and better texture, try browning the chicken pieces in a skillet over medium-high heat for a few minutes before adding them to the slow cooker. This step adds a nice depth of flavor and prevents the chicken from becoming too soft.

Thickening the Sauce

If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water to make a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking when you add the vegetables.

Adding Extra Flavor

For an extra burst of flavor, consider adding a splash of soy sauce or a teaspoon of grated ginger to the sauce mixture. This enhances the overall taste and adds a bit of complexity to the dish.

Fresh Vegetables

If you prefer using fresh vegetables instead of frozen, chop your favorite stir-fry vegetables and add them during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Fresh veggies will retain a bit more crunch and vibrant color.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this sweet and sour chicken over steamed rice or cooked noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds for an added touch of flavor and presentation.

  1. Tastes great! I’m curious where you get the MyWW Blue Plan point count – I’m in the blue plan and when I added this using the nutrition info you posted with the recipe, it says 6 pts. per serving. Either way, well worth it, and I will make it again!
