Tips and Tricks

Rice

Rinse the rice under cold water before cooking. This removes excess starch and helps keep the rice grains separate and fluffy.

Vegetables

Use a mix of colorful vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, and peas for a vibrant and nutritious dish. Fresh vegetables will retain more crunch, while frozen ones are convenient and cook quickly.

Onion

Chop the onion finely. Smaller pieces will blend better with the rice and other ingredients, ensuring a uniform texture and flavor.

Bacon

Cook the bacon until slightly crispy before adding it to the rice mixture. This adds a smoky flavor and a bit of crunch to the dish.

Oil

Use a neutral oil like canola or vegetable oil. These oils have a high smoke point and won’t overpower the other flavors.

Ketchup

Add a little extra ketchup if you like a tangier flavor. The sweetness of the ketchup balances well with the saltiness of the soy sauce and bacon.

Soy Sauce

Use low-sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness of the dish. This allows you to adjust the seasoning to your taste.

Microwave

Stir the rice mixture halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking. This helps distribute the heat and prevents any ingredients from sticking to the container.

Standing Time

Let the rice stand for a full 5 minutes after microwaving. This allows the steam to finish cooking the rice and blend the flavors together.

Serving

Garnish with chopped green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added flavor and a nice presentation.

Storage

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of water to prevent the rice from drying out.
