Tips and Tricks
Boiling Green Beans
When boiling the green beans, add a pinch of salt to the water. This enhances the flavor and helps maintain their bright green color.
Draining Green Beans
After boiling, drain the green beans thoroughly and pat them dry with a paper towel. Excess water can dilute the flavor and affect the texture during baking.
Mixing the Dressing
Mix the dry salad dressing mix and olive oil well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice for a fresh, tangy flavor.
Tossing the Beans
To evenly coat the green beans with the dressing, use a large mixing bowl or a zip-top bag. Toss the beans until they are well covered with the dressing mixture.
Baking Evenly
Spread the green beans in a single layer in the baking dish. This ensures even cooking and prevents them from steaming instead of roasting.
Cheese Topping
For a more even Parmesan coating, sprinkle the cheese halfway through baking. This allows the cheese to melt and adhere to the beans better.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the green beans as a side dish with grilled chicken, fish, or a pasta dish. They also make a great addition to a holiday meal.
Storage and Reheating
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until warmed through to maintain their texture.
Customizing Flavor
For added flavor, consider mixing in some minced garlic or red pepper flakes with the salad dressing mix. You can also garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or basil before serving.
Ensuring Crunch
If you prefer your green beans to have a bit of crunch, reduce the boiling time to 5-7 minutes. This will keep them slightly firmer after baking.
