Tips and Tricks
Mixing Ingredients
When combining the ground turkey, egg white, soy sauce, bell pepper, breadcrumbs, and scallions, use your hands to mix thoroughly. This ensures all the ingredients are evenly distributed for better flavor in each meatball.
Forming Meatballs
To make sure your meatballs are uniform in size, use a tablespoon or a small ice cream scoop. This not only ensures even cooking but also makes your presentation look more professional.
Preventing Stickiness
Keep a bowl of water or a bit of oil nearby to wet your hands while shaping the meatballs. This will prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands and make the process easier.
Baking for Even Cooking
Ensure the meatballs are spaced evenly on the jelly roll pan so they cook uniformly. Crowding them can lead to uneven cooking and less browning.
Flavor Boost
For a deeper flavor, you can add a teaspoon of minced garlic or a pinch of ginger to the turkey mixture. These additions complement the sweet and sour sauce well.
Sauce Heating
When heating the applesauce and sweet and sour sauce in the microwave, cover the bowl with a microwave-safe cover or a paper towel to prevent splatters and ensure even heating.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the meatballs and sauce over rice or noodles for a complete meal. You can also use them as a tasty appetizer by serving with toothpicks.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be kept for up to three days. To reheat, place them in the microwave or a saucepan until warmed through.
