Tips and Tricks

Slicing the Steak

For easier slicing, place the flank steak in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes before cutting. This will firm up the meat, making it easier to cut into thin, even slices.

Caramelizing Onions

To add a deeper flavor to your onions, you can caramelize them by cooking on low heat for a longer time, around 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning and achieve a rich, sweet flavor.

Cheese Melting

To ensure even melting of the cheese, shred it finely. This allows it to melt quickly and evenly over the steak and onions.

Bun Toasting

For a crispier texture, lightly toast the buns in the oven for about 2-3 minutes before adding the steak and onion mixture. This adds a nice crunch to the sandwich.

Make-Ahead Tip

You can prepare the steak and onions ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, simply assemble the buns, wrap in foil, and bake until heated through and the cheese melts.
