Homemade Weight Watchers Marinara Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 can (28 ounce) whole plum tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- ¼ medium onion finely chopped
- 2 clove garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoon fresh basil chopped
Instructions
- Coarsely chop tomatoes using a food processor or blender. Set them aside.
- Heat a medium-sized soup pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Once heated, add the olive oil and swirl it around the pot. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and continue to sauté until it becomes fragrant, which should take about 30 seconds.
- Pour in the chopped tomatoes and add the sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 minutes up to 1 hour, or until it thickens to your liking.
- During the last 5 minutes of cooking, stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves.
