Tips and Tricks

Prepping the Chicken

For more even cooking, cut the chicken breasts into similar-sized pieces before adding them to the slow cooker. This helps ensure that all pieces are cooked through at the same time.

Mixing Ingredients

Soften the cream cheese before adding it to the slow cooker. This helps it blend more easily with the other ingredients, creating a smoother sauce. You can soften it by leaving it at room temperature for about 30 minutes or microwaving it for a few seconds.

Enhancing Flavor

For added flavor, consider seasoning the chicken lightly with salt and pepper before placing it in the slow cooker. You can also add a teaspoon of minced garlic or some fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra depth of flavor.

Cooking Time

Slow cookers can vary in temperature, so check the chicken for doneness after 5 hours. The chicken should be tender and easily shred with a fork. If it’s not quite done, continue cooking for another hour.

Thickening the Sauce

If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the chicken once it’s cooked, and let the sauce cook on high with the lid off for 15-20 minutes to reduce and thicken. You can also mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of water and stir it into the sauce, cooking for an additional 10 minutes.

Adding Vegetables

For a more complete meal, add some vegetables like baby carrots, peas, or spinach to the slow cooker during the last hour of cooking. This adds more nutrients and makes it a one-pot meal.

Serving Suggestions

Storing Leftovers

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop, adding a splash of milk or broth to loosen the sauce if needed.
