Tips and Tricks
Preparing the Chicken
Use rotisserie chicken or leftover cooked chicken for convenience. Make sure the chicken is chopped into bite-sized pieces for easy eating.
Enhancing Flavor
For extra flavor, you can sauté some diced onions and garlic in the saucepan before adding the broth and soup. This adds depth to the overall taste of the dish.
Adding Vegetables
Consider adding some vegetables like carrots, peas, or corn to make the dish more nutritious and colorful. Add them to the boiling broth and soup mixture before adding the tortillas.
Tortilla Tips
When cutting the tortillas into 2-inch pieces, make sure they are evenly sized to ensure even cooking. Drop them into the boiling liquid one at a time to prevent them from sticking together.
Simmering
Keep the heat at a gentle simmer after adding the tortillas. Stir occasionally to prevent the tortillas from sticking to the bottom of the pan and to ensure they cook evenly.
Adjusting Seasoning
Taste the soup before serving and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more celery salt, salt, or pepper according to your preference. A dash of hot sauce or some red pepper flakes can add a nice kick if you like a bit of spice.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this hearty dish with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad. Some crusty bread or garlic bread would also complement it well.
Storing Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of chicken broth if needed to maintain the soup’s consistency.
Freezing
This dish can be frozen for up to three months. Allow it to cool completely before transferring to freezer-safe containers. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
Customizing the Recipe
Feel free to customize the recipe by using whole wheat or low-carb tortillas. You can also experiment with different seasonings like thyme or rosemary for a different flavor profile.
