Tips and Tricks
Sauce
Ensure the sauce ingredients are well combined before starting to cook. This helps the flavors meld together and ensures an even coating on the shrimp.
Oil
Use a neutral oil like vegetable oil for cooking. It has a high smoke point and won’t overpower the other flavors.
Garlic and Green Onions
Mince the garlic finely and slice the green onions thinly. This helps them cook quickly and release their flavors without burning.
Shrimp
Use cooked, tail-removed shrimp for convenience. If using raw shrimp, adjust the cooking time to ensure they are fully cooked through.
Cooking
Stir-fry the garlic and green onions quickly to avoid burning. They should be fragrant but not browned.
Thickening the Sauce
The cornstarch in the sauce will thicken as it heats. Stir continuously to prevent clumping and ensure the shrimp are evenly coated.
Serving
Serve the shrimp hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with extra sliced green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave to avoid overcooking the shrimp.
Variation
Add other vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, or broccoli for a more colorful and nutritious dish. Adjust the cooking time based on the vegetables used to ensure they are tender-crisp.
Presentation
For a vibrant presentation, garnish with fresh cilantro and a wedge of lime. This adds a fresh, zesty touch to the dish.
