Tips and Tricks
Browning Meat
Get a Good Sear
Make sure your skillet is hot before adding the pork. A hot skillet ensures a good sear, locking in the juices and adding flavor to the meat.
Slow Cooking
Layering Ingredients
When adding ingredients to the slow cooker, layer the pork on the bottom. This allows it to cook thoroughly and absorb the flavors from the other ingredients.
Adjusting Spice Level
Control the Heat
If you’re sensitive to heat, start with less cayenne pepper. You can always add more later if you want a spicier dish.
Cooking Hominy
Rinse and Drain Hominy
Rinse and drain the hominy before adding it to the slow cooker. This helps remove any excess salt and ensures a cleaner taste.
Enhancing Flavor
Add Fresh Herbs at the End
Add cilantro at the end of the cooking process. This keeps the herb fresh and vibrant, adding a burst of flavor to the dish.
Serving
Pair with Fresh Toppings
Serve the dish with fresh toppings like diced avocado, lime wedges, and shredded cheese. These add a nice contrast to the rich flavors of the slow-cooked pork.
