Tips and Tricks
Preparing the Chicken
Trim any excess fat from the chicken thighs before adding them to the slow cooker. This ensures a leaner and more tender result.
Layering Ingredients
Layer the ingredients in the slow cooker with the chicken on the bottom. This allows the flavors from the spices and tomatoes to penetrate the chicken more effectively.
Mixing Spices
Mix the garam masala, coriander, and cumin together before adding them to the slow cooker. This ensures the spices are evenly distributed throughout the dish.
Slow Cooker Settings
For the most tender chicken, opt for the Low setting if you have the time. Slow cooking on Low for 6 to 8 hours allows the flavors to meld beautifully and the chicken to become melt-in-your-mouth tender.
Adding Yogurt
Temper the Greek yogurt before adding it to the slow cooker to prevent curdling. Do this by stirring a few tablespoons of the hot sauce from the slow cooker into the yogurt, then gradually mix it into the rest of the dish.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the dish over a bed of basmati rice or with warm naan bread to soak up the delicious sauce. Garnish with fresh cilantro for a pop of color and added freshness.
Storing Leftovers
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This dish also freezes well, making it perfect for meal prep. Reheat gently to maintain the creamy texture.
