Tips and Tricks
Cooking the Ground Turkey
Cook the ground turkey and onions over medium heat, breaking the turkey into small pieces as it cooks. This ensures even cooking and a nice texture. Once cooked, drain any excess fat or liquid from the pan.
Combining Seasonings
Mix the taco seasoning and ranch dressing mix in a small bowl before adding to the turkey and onion mixture. This helps to evenly distribute the flavors.
Adding Ingredients
Add the undrained corn, hot chili beans, pinto beans, stewed tomatoes, and Mexican-style tomatoes directly to the skillet. The liquid from these ingredients adds flavor and moisture to the dish.
Simmering
Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for an hour. This allows the flavors to meld together and the ingredients to become tender and flavorful. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the dish with toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, diced avocado, chopped cilantro, or tortilla chips. These additions can enhance the flavor and add a fun, customizable element to the meal.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stove before serving.
Freezing
This dish freezes well. Portion it into freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat before serving.
Customizing
Feel free to customize the recipe by adding other ingredients such as bell peppers, green chilies, or olives. You can also adjust the spice level by adding more or less taco seasoning or by including some chili powder or cayenne pepper.
