Tips and Tricks
Drying the Fish
Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels before slicing and coating. This helps the coating adhere better and results in a crispier texture.
Uniform Slicing
Slice the fish into uniform sticks for even cooking. This ensures all the fish sticks are done at the same time and have a consistent texture.
Breading Station
Set up your breading station in an assembly line with the flour, egg, and panko mixture. This makes the process more efficient and less messy.
Coating Evenly
Make sure to shake off excess flour and egg before pressing the fish sticks into the panko mixture. This prevents clumping and ensures an even, crispy coating.
Cooking in Batches
Cook the fish sticks in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and soggy spots.
Turning the Fish Sticks
Turn the fish sticks halfway through cooking to ensure they cook evenly on all sides. This helps achieve a uniformly golden brown crust.
Spraying Cooking Spray
Lightly spray the fish sticks with cooking spray before and after turning them. This helps them crisp up nicely and gives them a golden color.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the fish sticks immediately for the best texture. Pair them with a dipping sauce like tartar sauce, ketchup, or a lemon aioli for extra flavor.
Storing Leftovers
Store any leftover fish sticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the air fryer to regain their crispiness before serving.
