Tips and Tricks

Marinate for Maximum Flavor

For the best results, let the beef marinate overnight. This allows the flavors to penetrate the meat fully, making it even more delicious.

High Heat Cooking

Ensure your skillet or wok is very hot before adding the oil. This helps to sear the beef quickly, locking in its juices and flavor.

Crisp-Tender Vegetables

Cook the broccoli and onion just until they are bright and tender-crisp. This preserves their nutrients and gives the dish a pleasant crunch.

Thicken the Sauce

If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can add a bit more cornstarch to the orange juice mixture. Make sure to stir constantly to avoid lumps.

Serve with a Side

For a complete meal, serve this orange sirloin beef and broccoli over brown rice or quinoa. This adds a wholesome grain component, making the dish more filling.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean trimmed sirloin beef trimmed and cut into thin strips
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon fresh ginger root peeled and minced
  • teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoon canola oil
  • 5 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  • Place the steak, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes into a large zip-close plastic bag.
  • Squeeze out the air from the bag and seal it. Then, turn the bag around to make sure the beef is coated.
  • Put the bag in the refrigerator and remember to turn it every now and then. Let it stay there for at least 30 minutes or even overnight if you want.
  • Heat up a large deep nonstick skillet or wok on high heat until it gets really hot. You can check by dropping a small bit of water in the pan and seeing if it sizzles.
  • Add the oil to the skillet and move it around so that it covers the surface.
  • Put the beef into the skillet and stir it around until it turns a light brown color. This should take about 3 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the beef to a plate.
  • Add the broccoli and onion to the skillet and stir them around until the broccoli becomes a bright green color. This usually takes about 3 minutes.
  • In a small cup, mix together the orange zest, orange juice, and cornstarch until it becomes a smooth mixture.
  • Pour the mixture into the skillet and stir everything together. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens and starts to bubble. This should take about 1 minute.
  • Add the beef back into the skillet and stir it around until it's heated through. This takes about 2 minutes.
