Tips and Tricks
Flour Choice
If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own by mixing 2 cups of all-purpose flour with 3 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. This replicates the self-rising flour needed for this recipe.
Dough Consistency
When mixing the dough, if it feels too dry, add a little more yogurt, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right consistency. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
Kneading Tips
Avoid over-kneading the dough. Knead just until smooth to prevent the biscuits from becoming tough. Overworking the dough can result in dense biscuits.
Cutting Biscuits
When using the biscuit cutter, press straight down without twisting. Twisting can seal the edges and prevent the biscuits from rising properly. Dip the cutter in flour between cuts to prevent sticking.
Butter Brushing
For an extra golden top, you can brush the biscuits with an egg wash (a beaten egg mixed with a tablespoon of water) before baking, instead of butter. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking for a rich flavor.
Baking Sheet
If you don’t have parchment paper, you can lightly grease the baking sheet with cooking spray or a small amount of butter to prevent the biscuits from sticking.
Storage Tips
Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to refresh their texture.
Freezing Instructions
To freeze, place the unbaked biscuits on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer them to a freezer bag or container. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the biscuits warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam. They also pair well with savory dishes like soups, stews, or as a base for breakfast sandwiches.
